Pipeline 1: Jetpack Jones - Blending the Upper Weights

Following the tutorial from our tutor, Alan, the weights of Jetpack Jones upper body is now blended. It took a few attempts to get the fingers complete as I seemed to keep missing weights and causing problem. However, once a good flow obtained, the repeat process was quite therapeutic and straight forward.

Before starting, we create animations on the joints we are working on so to get a visual on how the blending looks. The weights was blended by selecting rows of vertices, changing the paint operation to add/replace on the paint weight tool (whilst altering the value as needed) and selecting the flood options a the number of times desired. It's important to use the lock joints option when painting weights as so to not move weights all over the place.

Sometimes, we may need to go back between joints and re-apply weights so to get better results in the movement.  Some areas like the wrists needs more work to give a effective bend (there is a loss of volume in the cuff), these will require corrective blend shapes. So to help at present, we used the smooth option to blend, but using smooth can cause problems so it has to be done carefully.

When working on the forearm, it needed to have a bit of fall off when twisting. This ment we alter the amount of weight influence we paint as we make our way down the arm.

Finally with all the left side blended, the weights was copied on the right side.

As a lot of the weighting is a repeating process, so this post is quite short in terms of writing.
