Following a tutorial for premise, some new ideas came around for the ecosystem and the designs.
Firstly regarding the ecosystem, it comes across all a little too friendly. In the animal kingdom, although an ecosystem would work together to function, they will also work against each other to obtain what they want. So, I have created a "against" cycle to work with the current ecosystem:
The Against Cycle:
- The Sock Stealer is quite territorial and solitary, using the Pipe Tapper's communications to it's advantage until it gets what it wants.
- The Pipe tapper also wants the sock scraps to use for their nests but are unable to obtain them on their own. As I made the sock stealer to have good hearing, when it gets hold of it's food, they use noises to annoy the sock stealer and draw it away, stealing their prize. (essentially scavengers).
- In thinking about the Dust Makers, I'm more inclined for them to create dust bunnies for territory marking. Overall, the dust makers want environments created by the Tapper for their own homes and to make more bunnies. To do this they will draw the tappers away by placing fluff on pipes (floorboards etc) to change the sound, this then make their location undesirable and moves them on to find new homes. (This is a little like Cuckoo Birds and their eggs).
- The Sock Stealer is only interested in food and the markings gained from its consumption.
Overall, I need to think more about what their main goals are and then work with these.
It also came up to think more about the environment they inhabit. If these creatures are found in homes across the world, they would have slightly different atheistic and personalities due to their influences. This can also be used for the style of home and how they would adapt, be it more messy, rural, minimalist, a large house or apartment, etc.
Finally, I need to think about the humans involved. What is it they obtain from them and why do they stick around? Below are some evolving thoughts around it:
- Sock Stealer: Food and territory.
Personality: Grumpy, can become aggressive with disturbances, territorial, slow.
- Pipe Tappers: Nesting supplies and to cause mischief.
Personality: Lives in groups, flighty, mischief makers, Scavengers.
- Dust Maker: shelter, territory and safety (creating dust bunnies makes it seems that there is more of them and tricking into thinking there is safety in numbers).
Personality: Neurotic, watchful and always listening, nervous, opportunistic.
With these new ideas, I will try to come up with more directed designs.
