From Script to Screen - Bomb Disposal Expert and Dog Concept Ideas

Looking at all my story plots so far, I feel the one with the dog playing fetch with the bomb is the one with the most potential. So the next steps is to experiment with the story, whilst working out who the main character is and his dog companion. For the Bomb Disposal Expert, I would like him to be a bit older, this animation is gonna be set a while after WW2 had finished. There was quite a few unexploded bombs around London many years after the war had ended, and there are still some being found now. For his personality, I was thinking to be wise, relaxed, a small bit eccentric and slightly clumsy. In his disposal days, he would have been level-headed in sticky situations. However, due to being out of practise and content, he is not as calm as he would have once been.

The drawings below are just some sketches of his possible appearance, but I may go with something different. These sketches was very fun to draw. Once I'm happy, it will be time to move onto production art. Although the anatomy for these pieces are not 100%, I hope to have mastered it a bit more and have more of a style for the production art.

The 1st sketch was a warm up

This character is wearing shoes, but the scanner isn't big enough to capture them.

For the Dog, there are a few types of breeds that are employed for bomb detection. These include German shepherds, Bloodhounds, and Retrievers. So far, I feel a Bloodhound would be a good match due to their docile appearance and playfulness. However, I may change my mind and do some sketches of other breeds. I do also need to practise Dog anatomy more. The bomb is likely going to be a hand grenade, that way the dog can keep bringing it back with ease (the bomb is going to be a prop or dud).
