This session was about gaining the correct proportions of our life model though measuring. Examples where shown of loomis theory of measurement, and how using the scale of the head can give the correct sizing throughout the body. Using a pencil and our thumb, we firstly measured the head then worked our way down the body to gain landmarks. This also gave us the height of our model in head scale.
Our life model worked out to be about 7 heads, and using the landmarks of the body helped a lot. Although seen as a outdated method, it's still a excellent tool for learning. To go with this method, using the pencil to figure out angles enable us to plotting where everything should be (like the shoulders to the head and where the hands are placed).
Firstly we started with 15 minute natural poses, then moved on to 20 minute ones with some reclining positions. The reclining positions where for us to think about foreshortening, and how loomis measurements can help with that. With foreshortening, it best to think of the body as shapes to gain that 3D structure.
As this was mainly about proportions, I didn't worry so much about details but more about being able to fit the whole model onto the page. This is getting better, but still needs to works. Also. my model sketches are a little too stiff, so loosening up is another goal.
