Following our lecture this morning, we decided to have another meeting regarding finalizing our character's profile and scenarios. Research was done into comedic roles as follows:
With several prices of research and profiles under our belt, we worked together to choice certain attributes to mix in with Jasmine's fleshed out idea. This created the character's desired personality. We wanted to make it seem like the individual is applying for summer jobs whilst on break from university/college.
Moom's Personality
- Age: 18-20, Male (college student)
- New to the work place (a almost young mister Bean).
- Goofy, wants to help but is quick to panic when things go wrong.
- Has high anxiety, a bit of a disaster.
- Uses music to help calm himself down (always has a cassette and headset) but then becomes distracted.
In terms of clothing, we will have a basic look (trousers/ top) and then will modify Moom to fit the job. So as noted before, he has always got a cassette player. He has frizzy hair, high socks with trousers around the ankles.
With this more concrete, we decided on the 4 scenarios we wanted, which was inspired by what jobs that would have been more available in the 80's. This included a roller skate diner, a video store assistant, a launderette assistant and a bell hop. So to make production smoother, we each choose one scenario and create clothes designs, story board and the script.
Once done, we will band together to solidify the script to take a more uniformed form.
There is still a bit of planning needed on the passing between these skits, but we aim to place these all together by linking the previous job into the current. Whether that be seeing the previous place of employment though a window/background, or having small Easter eggs notable.
The character itself will not speak, but we aim to have a narrator talk about what is happening. We will also need a name and a finalized version of the title.
I chose to do the video store clerk, so that lead to start research (Whilst using some that had already been done) and creating. As a whole, I made 4 clothing designs, and made two mood boards. The clothing, (although there was lot of fast food uniforms in my board) I tried to fit it more towards polo-shirts, which seems to be quite popular in the 80's.
We decided to take a screen shot of Moom and paint over him so to get a accurate idea of how the clothes would look. Jasmine created the original looks, an we used his design as a basic to move forward with.

These designs are not final and are quite rough, once we have chosen then I will create a more painterly version.
