Toolkit 2 - Chracter Design: Lesson 2

The first part of today's lesson was focused on reality vs fantasy in creating environments.

All fantasy environments are referenced from real landscapes/interiors, each area has a reflection of the original added to the personality.

Even if the landscape is fantastical, it has to make sense in terms of scale, colour and details.

Everyday has to fit with the characters (Zootopia - animals). Nature has been crafted by the characters personality and shape.

To start this understanding, we was given a famous build and asked to look for key area, then exaggerate to give them a more fantasy structure.

I was given the Lloyd's Bank in London.

Following this we was given a random character, a trait and for us to choose the environment. I was given a wild west gun fighter, military as a trait and I decided on a jail cell.

As this was a military personality, I decided to keep the environment quite tidy and straight. There is plenty of guns and maps to chase down hidden criminals, finally newspaper clippings of his fathers arrests (he was also a sheriff) and what happened to him.

Following this, it was all about body language,  so we had a few volunteers to start learning the line of action in poses. As there isn't many in our class, we started looking at online references instead, which then lead to us looking at animals. I was given a crocodile.
