Collaboration - Briefing and Sentence.

Today we received our collaboration project debriefing. Explained was what is expected of us as students and the final required outcomes for this assignment.

Firstly, the point was raised about professional attitudes towards working in our new teams, and how our participation will be included in our grading. Respect is paramount in a team, but this doesn't mean just going along with everything. Talking about changing elements can also be good for making the end product go from mediocre to excellent, but this does means not being destructive or argumentative. Teamwork also means understanding that commitments exist outside of the working environment and should be has to be considered.

Part of our grade will go on how we conduct ourselves. Meaning how we participate and contribute to the overall project. The main ideals behind this is to experience whats its like to work in a team and preparing us for real studio environments. Animation is a group effort, and it takes individuals of many different skills to make it successful.

Firstly is to create a studio name, blog and brand. This means thinking about the name and how it will come across to future employers. In terms of branding, it will be considering about colours, text, and our values. Information as a team will be posted on the studio blog, and our personal contributions will be placed on our own. This way, it will present which works is being produced by whom.

Also came up the topic of assigning individuals to roles. The main roles are as follows:

Researcher

Screenwriter,

Director

 Producer

Marketing manager.

For ourselves, these are roles that will defined tomorrow via a teams meeting. The following rolles will fall into place later, but these will run throughout.

Next, It was about the project itself, and this is to create and bring a series of comical skits into a 2 minute animation. This isn't a long story arc, but small animations (between 10-15 or more) being placed together into a full feature. This will start with one sentence, which we will be given the beginning of and then it will be up to us to complete. This sentence can not be altered once completed, and will require problem solving to animate.

Even though we can be experimental, there are restrictions to adhere to. We will be using and texturing a specially designed rig as our main characters, which has been provided by our tutor. The camera has be a "Tripod" style, that mean no cameras flying everywhere. The film itself must be no longer than 2 mins, and finally it has to be exported in Maya's 2.0 viewport (playblasting). Editing, sound and animation is what will make this feature work.

The main empathises of this project is animation. It's not about rendering or maya, but being able to develop the character and comedy. To achieve this, we will need to think about researching thoroughly, the environments, types of comedy contrast, the style of comedy we want, and the characters personalities.

When choosing our senstance, one person from our team was chosen to pick a number and this number would give our beginning. Ours is:

The World's Worst ...........

Next will be to start brainstorming, allocating jobs and moving forward into pre-production phase.

Finally, we will be making film reviews as part of an individual work. These writings will be conducted academically so to improve our blogging and writing skills.
