Maya Practise - Chicken Coop Background Objects and Ground

As we come to the final stages of the Chicken Coop scene, a background fence and a ground plane is required. Following some tutorials and with a little background knowledge from classes, our self taught goal was to create both of these objects ready for importing. Working on the fence first as it was the most time consuming, then moving onto the ground.

The fence was a bit fiddly, it was best to model from square polygons and duplicate them. The post was an odd shape, the vertexs allowed better control in making the point and slightly off center kilter. Each plank is different, so it took a short time using the vertexs and scale tool to make sure they was right. As the ground is made using two plane polygons, its best to overlap them, extude a lip for the dune, and remove a area of the top plane to create the dip. Natural ground isn't flat, so using the soft select and vertex's again, the creation of small hilly areas gives a more organic feeling.

Now all of our models are complete, we will be moving onto texturing in Photoshop and importing everything together for our final scene.
